Working with the students from KSU was a fantastic experience. I taught a total of 25 students divided into smaller groups, each taught individually over the course of 3 weeks. I came up with a different design for each group, and covered the basic techniques of embroidery, including the best materials to use, creating a design and the ways you can transfer it onto the chosen fabric, and various stitches for beginners. Given that my time with the students was limited, I transferred the designs prior to the workshops so they were ready to be stitched in order to make the most out of the experience.
The students were provided with all the materials necessary to complete the project, and were able to take them home after the workshop ended.
Activities like these are a really great experience for those who come here for their semester abroad as they get a memory of their time here to take home, and come away having learnt something- both a new skill, and about the monument or symbol they have embroidered and city they are studying in.
The students I worked with at Kent State were all Fashion majors, so embroidery is a skill they will then be able to apply to their education and use in their future workplace, or simply take it up as a relaxing hobby.
If you have any questions regarding a potential workshop, please feel free to contact me either via email or my instagram page! I aim to answer all messages within 3 working days.
